Post subject: wrong medication used - what now ?
Archived from groups: rec>aquaria>freshwater>goldfish (more info?)

Hello,

Since last weekend I've got 2 new prides. A wonderfull black moor and a
panda telescope. Both of them in the quarantine tank.

On Tuesday this week, the panda telescope developed ich. Since I was out on
a business trip, my girlfriend provided the medicin. Worried during my
absence I enquired every day, but the fish were not doing any better. I
came back today and saw them in a rather appalling state. They are very
lethargic in a corner and all fins are down. White spots all over and the
water a little yellowish.
I immediately thought that the wrong medication must have been used because
of the color of the water. I had an old bottle of TetraMedica FungiStop
(brown colour medicin) and the malachit green medicin (blueisch) which I
usually use when ich appears next to each other in the cupboard. With the
best of intentions, my girlfriend has provided the fungal medicin instead of
the ich medicin...

I immediately did a 50 % water change and put the active coal filter in.
The coal filter with the intention of cleaning out the fungal medicin. I
have the intention of taking out the coal filter tomorrow and put the
malachit medicin after 24 hours.

Is this the right way to do ? Should I have done something different ?
Should I still do something different ?

I am very proud of my found from last weekend, and I would very much hate to
loose them. Not only for the price I paid, but for the beauties they are.

Anyone any suggestions ?

Thanks.

Krist De Marez.

I would have done a 100% waterchange and slightly under-dosed
with the correct meds right away.
Good luck
