I have a very wounded budgie with an open wound. What is the best
treatment?

No, I'm not going to take it to a vet. He would certainly put it down.

Too late. He died. He had been attacked by other bird(s) and was on his
last gasp when I found him. Poor little blighter...

Very sorry to hear that.

You tried, that was all you do.

Asking for emergency help on a usenet group hardly qualifies as trying. Not
that there was really anything to do but wait for the thing to die anyway.

Well perhaps he could have done the more worthwhile thing that you suggested
then???

Who says that's all I did?

Well, I have nursed some birds back to health from apparently hopeless
situations before. In this case it was not to be.

I'm sorry you lost the bird Stephen, I last lost one when I was fifty
years old and couldn't stop the tears, he was like a member of the
family. You have my sympathy.

I don't know if this is sarcasm :-( but I choose to believe it's not. I
recently cried after I lost a budgerigar; it was the first time I have ever
cried as a result of losing a pet; even when I was young I somehow managed
to avoid that.

I don't believe it's sarcasm. Last year my flock was killed by my
maintenence man who fixed (!) my heater and I still haven't quite gotten
over it - they were my children.

Oh no, its definitely NOT sarcasm. I had a blue parakeet ( Tweety )
and had had him for almost 8 years and had to take him to the vet to
have him put to sleep because he had a large tumor, bloody stools and
was spending most of the time on the floor of his cage. On my way to
the vet I forgot and left his cage door open and the little fellow
managed to leap up on the edge of the opening and let out with a few
chirps like old times. It was definitely a heartbreaker to bring his
little body back home and bury him out in the woods behind the house.
He's not the first parakeet I've cried over. I'm now 54 and have had
parakeets for probably 45 years or so out of my 54 years, I get
*really* attached to the little fellows. I now have two more of them,
and I always have to have one named Tweety !

With *real* sympathy, Gary

Of course it's not. you just have to realize that Oakes ain't that bright
and has a lot of trouble comprehending the most basic of sentences. He
probably doesn't understand this one.
