See if you can take her some parsley - they tend to eat veggies 1st,
then hay, then pellets. this has been my experience with all the buns
that have had surgery in my care.
the other thing i notice when they are ill is, IF they are eating, the
poop may not come for a few days. if the appetite is there, then i
don't worry about poop. if there is no appitite, then i worry.
Get well vibes to Liza!

Cathy, I went to visit her at the clinic after work, and she still has not
pooped. They handed her to me so that I could hold her and her incision
was opened up, said by her licking on it. Her ear and paw were shaved from
trying to put the catheter in, and she is so sore. They have been giving a
pellet paste, and sub qu's. She is staying again tonight. I am so
miserable. But I had twenty minutes to cuddle with her. Said would give
mineral oil if last resort to get her pooping. Keep those vibes coming,
please. Carla and my Liza. >> Stay informed about: Any word on Liza? |

Why did they let her incision come unglued? Couldn't they put a
bandage on it or somethng?

Hi Carla,
I know others have asked - is Liza being given pain meds? Metacam is
probably the drug of choice these days for pain management.
On the veggie front, dill and carrot tops are other good choices (in
addition to parsley) for stimulating the bunny to eat. My vet has also
~always~ wanted to give baby food - you may want to suggest that to the vet.
If I recall correctly, Watson was getting 2 full jars (the smallest jar -
perhaps 2 ounces) every day for about 2 weeks after surgery.
As Michele said, I would question the mineral oil idea; is there another
blockage in the cecum?
I hope today is a better day for both of you. Right after Watson's surgery,
I was able to easily handle him for his feedings by wrapping him in a towel
(also helped to keep him warm), and setting him in the middle of the dining
room table. I think he probably hurt too much to squirm around, and I was
able to syringe feed the baby food, hand feed the greens, and give him his
meds without any struggling. Of course, as he began to feel better he was
less willing to sit quietly, but by then I was past the point of being
afraid that I would hurt him so I was able to keep him firmly in my lap
while syringe feeding. If you have a 2nd set of hands at home, that will
make everything much easier too.

Hi Carla,
I'm glad you got to go see her. It makes the waiting a little more
bearable. You are both in my prayers while you go through recovery. Thank
the good Lord it IS recovery.
Love and hugs,

i certainly relate to your feelings. when dipper was in the hospital for a
week i was a NERVOUS WRECK.
don't certain anesthesias constipate people? my thinking is that maybe it
does the same thing to rabbits....
i know, two totally different species here but i'm just thinking out loud.

Michele, I will talk to her about mineral oil. I am going to give Liza some
parsley, always my old standby. I don't think my girl will give that up to
quickly. Liza is getting critical care mash and pellet mash right now.
She is however not drinking water on her own, but being hydrated by the
sub-qu's, have to work on that to get her home. Also, her stitches are
inside and she put liquid solution on them to close again. I have to be
very careful about that. Carla and Liza. And I have that article printed
out for reference and had used it with my other two buns. Thank you, Carla
and Liza. >> Stay informed about: Any word on Liza? |

She's been through a lot, Carla. I'm sure it will take some time to get
everything working well again but sounds like she is really hanging in
there.
Keep us posted!

Claire, you can do the sub-cu at home. It's really scary at first--and many
of us can share stories!--but it isn't so hard once you get over the initial
fear of sticking that big needle into your little fuzzy.
My heart is with you. Man, I hate having my babies in the hospital--except
the bird, who loves "Hotel" Night Owl, and has a happy and stimulating time
there. (They do only birds...) But the bunnies... a different story.
Hang in there. All these vibes are going to help...
Hugs,
