both my ratties are now using the wheel I put in there a week ago. I
thought I'd have to take it back because it's one of those huge chinchilla
sized ones and it wasn't cheap. But now they're going like gangbusters in
it. Didn't even have to show 'em how.

you'll be greatful you got a large one when they grow up. if you bought the
regular sized wheel, adult rats have to arch their backs sharply when they
run in them and consequently choose not to use them very often, although i
did have a rat that used to cramb into one and run when she knew that
breakfast was almost ready. a nice, large , sturdy wheel can provide a
lifetime's worth of exercise.

A large wheel is ideal for rats.
Both my males and females love their wheels. Some like it mostly for
sleeping in. ;)

My lads like their ratified Wodent Wheel Wobust for stashing in. Then
someone goes for a run and gets pelted by whatever has been stashed.

LOL!!! Or when there's a poop left in there, you hear it tick tick tick
all night long.

I actually had to change wheel brands because of that poop-in-the-wheel
business. I got a wheel that doesn't have a lip on it, so if there's
poop, it doesn't stay in there.

As my girls get older, they don't use the wheel so much anymore. They
are about 2 1/2. Darla used to run, seriously, 14 miles a night. I
wished I could hook up an electric generator to that wheel! After
Chewie died in November, she stopped running so much. I actually think
it's because Chewie stressed Darla and Buttons out. She could be hard
to live with and running is a good way to deal with stress. Both Darla
and Buttons have slowed down. Buttons actually goes back to her cage
before playtime is over and takes a little nap.

I think they're a bit more active than boys. Though I've been told boys
slow down when they get to adulthood, and my two still act like 8 week
olds.

Wooden wheel - i Brought a new wooden wheel of ebay, a wobust i think, and gosh its huge, cant fit it in my cage, so it lives in the play pen. Any tricks to get em to use it, the two babies should be trainable with it.

Wodent Wheel is a bust - Back before I got my ratties in August and September, I went crazy buying a huge cage and every supply imaginable for them. Included in this shopping spree was a nice big Wodent Wheel. I was used to mice who *live* on the wheel, so imagine my surprise....
