Our two ferrets are amazing in every way. However, like all little
ferrets, I find their litter odor strong. We clean the cage quite
often yet I still pick up that ammonia smell. We also have several
cats

I got a bag of some stuff from a friend called Swheat Scoop that is
litter made out of wheat. I tried it out on my mice and it worked
great as bedding. I read on the package it is supposed to be really
good for ferrets as litter. I just want to make sure it's safe for
them because I'd never even heard of this stuff until I got the bag.

Anyone ever actually try this stuff in their ferret litter box before?
Right now, we just use regular unscented non-clumping cat litter. But
if this wheat stuff is known to be good for them, I might give it a try.

this place doesn't get much traffic. You'd be better off at
alt.pet.ferrets.

Regular cat litter is bad for your ferret. Too much dust, might get
into the nasal cavity when your ferret snorkels through the clean
litter.

People use Swheat Scoop with thier ferrets and are quite happy with it.

I use wood stove chips. A 40# bag is between $4 and $5. Turns to
sawdust when pooped on. Not hard to use. Easy enough to keep clean.
Try a fire place store, home supply store or a farm supply store. Wood
chips often aren't available in the summer. We use Pet Buddy or Equine
Fresh. Might cost another $1 for a 40# bag.

We use a sort of similiar product but it is made from corn husks,
easier to find and less expensive than Sweat Scoop.

Also agree, little or no activity here, the other group mentioned I
quit a long time ago because it was too occupied by 3 or 4 people busy
throwing insults at each other and was quite offensive.

I would suggest 2 MSN groups full of activity and very friendly and
knowledgeable people;
http://groups.msn.com/Ferret/ and then
http://groups.msn.com/ferretlovers. Nonsense is not tolerated there,
just the love of animals, since many have other pets like cats, dogs,
horses, squirrels, skunks and so on. You will find most members from
the US, many from Canada and some from the UK.
