I understand that scientists are looking into duplicating the properties of
spider web to produce things like soft body armor. However, I've read that
"natives" have used web to make things like fishing nets, bags and even
headdresses. Anyone have an idea of what natives these are? And what spider
makes a web strong and easy enough to work with that can be made into such
things?

I hear it's the web of the Nephila family of orb weavers. Their webs are so big
and strong that they are used as is for fishing nets.
