I have a 6 pound poodle who drinks tons of water everyday. He has access to
two water dishes through the day at all times, one in his crate in my
bedroom and one in the kitchen. I fill up the one in the crate at least 3
times a day (it is not huge but still, that seems like a lot). Then he also
drinks out of the water dish in the kitchen several times a day and even
sneaks downstairs to the other dogs water dish to drink out of it. Since he
drinks so much, he is constantly wanting to go outside to pee. Except for
at night, he must go out to pee at least 1 time every 1 or 2 hours. Is this
a problem? thanks

excessive water consumption can be a sign of diabetes or other illnesses.
i'd take him to the vet.

have him run blood and urine tests anyway. Better safe than sorry.

try ice cubes in his dish - may slow him down while still providing
water.

He was recently at the vets for fur biting. I asked about the water
consumption and he seemed to think that it could be due to the fact that he
only has dry food, no wet. When I mentioned diabetes, he said it would be
very rare as the puppy is only 6 months old. As for the heat/dry house idea
above, that is something I haven't thought of. I'll have to keep track of
days when he seems to drink more than others and see what the temp is like
in our house.
