| whenever I go to the vet, she finds something wrong with my puppy. first he
had worms, then coccidia and now an ear infection. I am always paying for
tests, medicine and other fees. Is she messing with me? Should I get a new
vet and see what happens with them? Are puppies prone to all this stuff so
I don't need to worry? thanks.

Where did you get your pup?
coccidia is common in puppies who were kept in not-so-clean conditions
when younger. Worms would also be pretty consistent with that sort of
thing. I'm not sure about the ear infections though. Aren't Poodles one
of the breeds that can be prone to those?

I'd suggest at least a second opinion from a vet recommended by
friends. Puppies often have worms and other infections are
common.
Your medical questions would be best posted to

All of those things are common, although more likely in a puppy from a
breeder who didn't take proper care.
>I am always paying for
> tests, medicine and other fees.
That's pretty much to be expected when you get a puppy, more so if your
source for the puppy was a shelter or a less-than-meticulous breeder.
>Is she messing with me?
Why on earth would a vet "mess with you"?
In any case, since (AFIAK) none of us are vets, and even if we WERE vets,
none of us have SEEN your puppy to verify whether or not those ailments
actually existed (which I'm betting they did), there's no way that any of us
can answer that question.
> Should I get a new
> vet and see what happens with them?
Again, none of us can really answer that, because none of us knows A. the
vet you're currently seeing and/or B. why and how your puppy contracted the
ailments your vet has diagnosed and treated.
If you have SUBSTANTIAL reason for feeling distrustful of this vet (not
just the fact that she's diagnosed common ailments), you could ask around,
get recommendations from other dog owners whose dogs appear healthy and well
cared for, and try going to another vet.
But IMO, it's highly unlikely that a vet would lie about finding common
ailments in a puppy, and highly LIKELY that your puppy simply has some
health problems.

Did your puppy visit a groomer just before his ear infection? If so,
find out whether the groomer plucked out the hair inside his ears; if
so, request that it be trimmed instead. Plucking it out irritates the
skin - not to mention that it hurts like the dickens.
It does sound like you are getting the "fallout" from a less than
hygienic breeder, though. Coccidia, if I recall correctly, comes from
chicken manure. Or another infected dog.
Good luck, and tell us how things go!

This is getting off topic, but...

According to the many long-haired dogs I've groomed, having hair plucked
out of their ears doesn't hurt at all - they've been known to sleep through
it. If they do react, they put up about as much fuss as they do when having
a tickly spot brushed. And their non-reaction wasn't due to training - many
of these were shelter dogs who'd clearly never had a thorough grooming in
their lives.
I've plucked ears hundreds of times; not one dog ever got an ear infection
after having had it done. OTOH I would never ever stick a pair of scissors
down a dog's ear canal, or ask anyone else to; IMHO that's asking for trouble.
JFWIW,

OK; I'll stand corrected on the pain.
But a friend's groomer plucked her Black Russian Terrier's ears just
before a show, and he kept shaking his head to the point where she
withdrew him. Definitely some discomfort there. They were oozing and crusty.
I wouldn't put pointy scissors into a dog's ear canal either, but they
do make special blunt points for the purpose.

Sounds awful :-(. Poor guy. If that's been your only experience with
plucking, no wonder you warned the OP. But that's definitely NOT
typical, I assure you. I have to wonder if he had the beginnings of
an ear infection beforehand. In that case plucking would definitely
hurt and the ears would probably start oozing pretty quickly.
> I wouldn't put pointy scissors into a dog's ear canal either, but they

That will still allow cut hair to fall down farther into the ear canal;
plucking doesn't, and will get the ear far more clean as well.
Many people just assume that since having their hair pulled out would
be painful, it must be painful for their dog as well. Me, I listen to
my dogs on subjects like that :-).
