Questions to ask vet

I have a vet appointment next week for Ione. Inone is a 4 yr old girl, a
retired breeder, returned to me when another breeder had to move to smaller
quarters.

I thought Artie had bit Ione on the ear, and she had a large painful scab.
She will barely let me touch it, without trying to bite me. I've been
leaving it alone. It's gotten larger, not smaller, and has spread down
inside the ear.

Someone suggested a tumor. Another to pierce it and clean it out and to
give her some antibiotics. (I have either amoxy or baytril) It seems more
like 3rd party diagnosing, when the vet shold be seeing her. I can't find
anything like it in the easily accessible information or books I already
have.

Sounds potentially like an abscess (really can't say without looking... but
wound, followed by swelling lump etc.). If it's an abscess it needs to be
properly drained by a professional and treated with antiobiotics if you want
to be on the safe side. Abscesses can lead to septicemia (ach... don't know
how to spell these medical words) if left untreated. If it were me, I'd let
a vet do it, since they have all the techniques for washing out abscesses
(which I think involves more than just squeezing the pus out)/making the
correct diagnosis etc. that I certainly don't possess ;o)
