Greetings. I had Hamster recommended to accomplish the following:
I use an older word processing program called Yeah Write. It has built-in
e-mail support, distribution list management, etc., and it's perfect for my
needs. The problem is that the e-mail setup is very primitive -- it allows
only the smtp address and whether or not authentication is necessary.
I cannot set a non-standard port, and I cannot set SSL. Both are making
life miserable. I use a local (San Diego) provider, and I also use gmail.
The local fellows just upgraded their software, and now they require all
kinds of things I can't do with Yeah Write. Gmail requires settings I can't
use.
I need something to sit between Yeah Write and my users, something with an
internal SMTP capability that will allow me to bypass both gmail and my
local provider and just send the mail out from my computer.
Can Hamster do this? One problem I found (I downloaded version 1 at the
suggestion of my friend) is that the SSL box in the setup section is grayed
out, and I can't figure out how to turn it on. And I get an error when I
try to turn SMTP on -- something about some other program using the port, or
some such error.
Any ideas? Am I barking up the wrong tree altogether?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Yes; he's perfect for this purpose.

Version 1 is a litle bit [tm] uot of date; you better should use the latest
stable
version (V2.1.0.10).

For using SSL, you need some additional files (
http://sites.inka.de/ximera/openssl_dlls.zip ).

Then some other program (probably a firewall, anti virus software or
simillar; but it might be another email program, too) is already using it.
Any port can be uset only once at a time.
To find out what it is, you can run telnet.exe with parameters the IP and
port you configured in your email program (e.g. something like 'telnet.exe
127.0.0.1 25'), and look who is answering.
