Hello everyone,
I am finally getting Q-tip spayed. Her pre-spay appt. is on Wednesday
and if all is well she will be spayed on Monday the 26th. I have
asked all the questions on HRS and got all the right answers. I feel
confident on the vet I chose. My question, since most of you have
went through this. What other questions should I ask? and what do I
expect? I know I will cry when I drop her off..:'( What can I do for
her after surgery? I am worried she won't want to eat. She seems to
go through these periods when she does'nt want to each much. It's a
pattern with her. Worries me to death, I always think it's the
beggining of stasis, but her poops are always plentiful. It's just
her personality. Any answers and good spay vibes are appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Candice, Q-tip, and from the bridge CAdbury. >> Stay informed about: Q-tip & spay questions |

Candice, the only thing I can think of is to ask about pain relief after the
operation. Females can be sore for a couple of days and pain relief makes
it much easier. Let your vet know about the depressed appetite, since
he/she will want to avoid a narcotic, which will depress the appetite even
more.
After the surgery, be sure to give her a nearby litter box that she doesn't
have to climb into and lots of water. Keep food that she likes nearby. She
may not eat for a few hours after surgery. If she continues not to eat, try
to get her to eat something... anything that she will eat. After she starts
eating, it will get her gut moving again.
Ask your doctor if you can make an emergency appointment if Q-tip doesn't
start eating within a few hours. Everything will probably be just fine. It
is good to know there is a vet there if needed, though.
Hope that all goes well and there are no troubles at all,
Anita, Jessie, and Quark

I find that when they are spayed they go for salad 1st - then hay - then
pellets. make sure you have some good salad at home for her when she comes
home.
I've had a few buns not want their pellets for almost a week post op.. so salad
it was for her!

Candice,
My rabbit LOVED her little Snuggle Safe warmer. It's like two plastic
frisbies glued together, and filled with a gel. You heat it in the
microwave for a few minutes and it stays warm for several hours. We
wrapped it in a towel and she perched her tummy on top of it.
The first day, she didn't eat much, just started nibbling at the end of
the day. I just kept tempting her with cilantro and anything she
normally loved. I'd put it right in front of her nose. I also held a cup
of water up to her and she drank some of it. It was too much work to get
up, apparently.

Thanks everyone. The pain medication was on my list of questions for
her pre-spay appt. Very nervous but I know I have to do this. Thanks
for all your advice.
