Hello.

I work all day and speak at conferences about once a month (I am gone
for three days). I am thinking of buying a 2 month old Orange Winged
Amazon.

My bird experince: I had a canary while in school for 5 years. The
poor thing got an respiratory infection and died.

I'm afraid the bird might get too lonely if I am away so much.

What do you think?

Thanks, New

I think it will get too lonely in solitary confinement. They have a strong
flock instinct and end up basket cases when they are used as feathered
living toys, to be amusing when you are home and simply left without a
thought when you are not (which is most of the time).
Don't do it.
You could consider kepping a pair of something smaller, like parrotlets,
lovebirds, tiels or smaller conures. That way they will be company for each
other when you are away, yet happy to come out and interact with you when
you are home. You also have to consider what you will do with the bird(s)
when you are away. You cannot simply leave them for a couple of days.

If you care about Amazons even a little PLEASE DON'T GET ONE, not with
the lack of free time you are talking about. Amazons NEED LOTS of
company, If they don't get it they will be louder than anything you
(or anyone living on your street) have ever heard before. If you really
want a pet(s) try tropical fish. I'm not trying to be funny, with as
much away time as you have fish or maybe a cat is the only way to go.
I hope this info helps. John
