I have a black lab and live in S. Florida. He is on Revolution, gets
an oatmeal bath weekly but we seem to be losing the battle with the
tics.I've even tried putting garlic in his food following someone's
suggestion.

Any references, home remedies, etc. would be most welcome.

........yes, tick season is shaping up to be a bad one here in FL - just in
the past few weeks they've gotten numerous
.........once a week is too many baths - won't help with ticks anyway.
........Frontline works for ticks, but don't know if you can add it to
Revolution - ask your vet
.......I look for ticks after we come back from a run in the wild - before we
get in the car (they're usually crawling on top of the fur), and for several
hours afterwards - they're still roaming around. I toss them in my tick
jar - full of alcohol. This gets rid of the majority of them.
.......You can also use Amitraz tick collar, but this is pretty toxic and if
you have kids or cats in the house you probably shouldn't use it. I can't -
I have cats that groom the dogs.

One problem with home remedies for ticks is that they don't work.
Especially in warm climates like ours. <grin> Talk with your vet about
possible approaches. If your dog is picking up the ticks on your
property, it is safest to treat the property with an appropriate
insecticide, exactly following the instructions for the product. Ticks
carry a variety of serious diseases that effect humans, as well as pets,
so chemical treatment of the grounds is justified, just often enough to
keep them under control. Discuss this with your vet, too. One thing I
soon learned when I moved to the South was that the vets had a deep
understanding of what agents were effective and safe, what was safe to
use with what I used on the dogs, and any variations on the theme...
