hi,

in a 250l tank, I've got a couple of severums, they're doing very fine,
spawn once in a while, nothing wrong with them, a while ago I had two
couples, sometimes both of them spawned.

I've got 5 satanoperca pappaterra as well, but they don't start getting
territorial at all, not too colorful either, so I'm planning to give these
animals to someone with more space for them.

BUT: I'm looking for suitable tank mates for my severums now. I've thought
about Aequidens pulcher, A. rivulatus (though they might be too hardcore),
Geophagine species... It'd be nice if they were a bit of an eye catcher,
either because of temper or because of colors.

any suggestions *blush* ?

Hello Tjaard,

I have three Severums in a 165 gallon tank. They get along great
with my Uaru (my favorites if you can find quality fish), keyhole
cichlids, acara species, Satanoperca jurupari, and Geophagus
surinamensis. I would especially recommend the first two for your
setup.

Not sure what you mean by an eye catcher because of "temper". If
you mean you want really aggressive fish, I would not recommend them
as Severum companions. People have different experiences, but in my
experience Severums do not do well with very aggressive fish.

Regards,
Meph

lessee.... a store nearby has Gymnogeophagus Bahia, Geophagus Tapajos and
Geophagus altifrons (I believe a synonym of G. surinamensis) at this
moment.

in my opinion, Uaru look too much like severums, I also fear that they
might be discus-like sensitive, anyways, thanks for the input :) .

Uaru look too much like severums!!!! Your killing me Tjaard! Uaru
are one of the most distinctively colored fish in the world, imo.
Don't think you've really seen a prime specimen. They do prefer
soft acid water, but are much less sensitive than discus, with much
more personality.

But looks like you have an interesting selection of geophagines to
choose from. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Regards,
Meph

well, sorry, I'll take a good look at them at the fish store then :) .

to be honest, the other people living in the house have some kind of a
vote as well, as they'd like more variation in the tank. I'll take my mom
along to the store next time :) .
