How old are they??? Band on foot?? Check year..
Are thier wings trimmed back enough to where if they fly they can only
softly land on the floor??
If not trim them if you know how, if not get them done, its a simple thing
to do and learn, once trimmed, leave doors open and have them always in
sight of you. Play with their toys, eat in front of them, they are flock
creatures, you are part of the flock, monkey see monkey do, as a few days go
by hopefully when you leave the room and come back they get somewhat excited
and maybe even as your leaving they whistle and prance around if that goes
on they want to go too and then thats a sure sign of a bird that wants to be
your friend. Once they come out to escape they are gonna go to the floor,
leave them be and see where they want to go, most likely up high, try to
help one if it cant get to where it wants to go, and always use the
"Step-up" command, if they are like some I have rescued, your in for some
painfull bites but if your lucky it may step up, if its a biter and once it
clamps on and does not let go, you need a bic pen or the like to stick
between its beak, some will not let go even when you shake your hand, a
serious biter is hard to tame, some only appear like they are going to bite
but only give you pinches, those are cured by a simple rock of your hand,
have a chew toy to put in the way of the bird, I would not reccommend using
gloves as you can give the bird a fear of "Bad Hands" use a perch to
start(dont just try for a couple trys, this takes days, even weeks, the bird
must trust you first, try an array of things for it to step-up on, corner
it, make it step-up, always tell it nicely Step-up, Step-up, it will...,
sweep the perch right under and make it and raise it straight up as high as
you can reach then slowly lower it to your level and hopefully it stays
perched so you can walk around with it if that dont work a small dish towel
or one big enough to drape over the bird for handling, once you have the
bird get your hand or perch inside the towel at its feet so it can grab to
perch remove towell once perched and again hopefully it stays, dont try to
pet it or nothing just raise it up to where its looking, probaly its cage
and let it go,, you have to get it to know Step-up first or it will be an
endless struggle for you, once back on the cage or wherever it wanted, leave
it be for a bit and then try to give it millet, if it backs off, leave the
treat, always speak calmly and never never flick your birds beak as some do,
its full of blood and nerves and it really hurts the bird and probaly really
pisses it off and then you have bad hands without using gloves, when its
trying to bite a stern command of NO BITE and a rock of your hand(if on your
hand) to throw them off balance works around here pretty darn good, Tiels
are pretty curious and fast learners, when you get it on your hand or even
just on your body, even if its clinging to your chest shirt or wherever,
walk with it and talk to it showing it around its home(your house) tiels
watch everything going on around them. Patience, consistency and lots of
time and treats will win your birds over, the Step-up command MUST be
learned. Good Luck
