My grey is two years old and what a vocabulary. Problem is that he
talks only in front of me or when he's alone but not in front of anyone
else. Is this natural?

He's shy. Most of my birds are like that too.

Our two and a half year old CAG is the same way. If put out on his tree
perch in the back yard he will carry on for hours or if in his cage with no
one around. With my wife, son and or myself around he will talk some but not
with gusto. Bring someone else over that's not in the flock and he will clam
up. I often wonder if they think I'm B.S. ing them when I tell them all of
the things he says and the sounds that he can imitate.

You could try a taperecorder, although mine seem to know when there's one around.
