both my mice on occaision whapp their tails rapidly making a little noise.
Bindi was doing this the other day whilst making a little sleep nest.
Both my mice are female. Any ideas on why they do this?

Cheers,
Bren

I have a rat called Bindi, because she has a little white dot on her
forehead.

My Bindi is agouti with a white belly. I used to keep mice, and they did
that tail thing too. I don't think it's anything much to worry about. I
don't know why they do it though.

Is the tail rattling like a rattlesnake tail? This often means ANGER.
My female and male mice have done this during scraps, which is rare.
They also will do it if briefly exposed to a foreign mouse from a
different cage. It's almost like an emotional response, sometimes the
whole body shakes but the tail is the most noticeable. As I said, it
usually means a fight just happened or is about to.

The tail beating is normally a waning signal, mine only do it when a new
male is introduced to the cage.

A lot of times mice rattle their tails during territorial disputes or
quarrels, but it is more generally a sign of being upset. The excellent
naturalistic study of mice, "Mice All Over," explains that mice do it when
they are feeling very uncertain. One of my females does it sometimes when I
pick her up too quickly or unexpectedly.

Dry skin on mouse tail? - I noticed my mouse "Pipeline" has had dry, kind of "scaly" skin on her tail for a few days now. The other mouse tails are quite smooth, but hers is noticeably dry. I haven't noticed that she's drinking any more or less, and her beha...

Follow up on dry mouse tail - Well I promised I'd post the results of putting olive oil on my mouse's tail (the dry skin problem). It seems to have worked - Pipeline's tail is much softer than it was, although there are still a couple of dry patches, but even after a few days it's..
