Hi,

I want some "old style" modenas. I had modenas in the 1960's and they were
smaller and finer than the modern type.

If anyone knows where I can find them please email me at
jkinder.TakeThisOut@jkinder.com.

Thank you,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I wish you good luck. I don't think there are any of the old style
modenas around any more.

The first issue of Purebred Pigeon magazine had an interesting article
and they had a picture of the old style modena versus the modern modena.
Wow--what a difference.

I believe that you can still find the old style modena's in Australia
although they are becomeing rare. I guess having import restrictions for
so many years had its good point's. New Zealand I believe still had
tough import restrictions and may still have the old style, although I
hear is customary for NZ breeders to smuggle eggs from Australia so they
may be tough to find there too.

Jerry, I remember you from years back, as I also used to raise modenas. They
sure have ruined them. Check out the Purebred Pigeon Magazine. As noted, their
first issue , which just came out had a nice article on German Modenas. They
are somewhat like the old style, although I dont like their long necks and
legs. I think it would be fairly easy to breed them the way they use to be by
crossing the two breeds, or using some other cross, like, believe it or not,
the fantail. Some of the fantails guys have used this cross to improve the fan
and it has worked very well. But with judicious crossing, almost any small
breed will do...Ron C
