Um, I have Christmas on my shoulder, and as is my habit I was playing
with her tail. I found that the last two inches (the tip) feels sorta
squishy, not like I [seem to] recall it usually is, and the skin seems
to er..slip a lot more than usual.

I'm wondering if something has happened or whether I am just noticing
it more. How loose should tail skin be? There are no obvious injuries,
and I certainly haven't trodden on her.

It feels really odd. (I'll probably get a boy or two out to compare,
but I'm fairly sure it wasn't like this yesterday)

cheers,
M&m

Does it feel a bit... crunchy? Not in an "oh my god the bones are broken"
way, more like you're moving cartilage about or something? My rats' tails
always felt like that, floppy at the end and with slippy skin like you
said, but only for the last centimetre or so. If she still has sensation in
her tail (I know it's really mean, but you could try pinching the very tip
just a little bit and see if she pulls away) it could just be one of those
weird things - if it was me, I'd just wait and see if anything happens. I
hate it when weird stuff happens... :-)

Mmm..it feels...er...squishy. The boys tails have the same type of..uh
appearance/quality so maybe its a normal rat thing. It just seems odd
that the skin twists over the tail bones. The tip still curls and
stuff, so I reckon its just the way I looked at it. :s

We've all been paranoid about something that turns out to be normal in our
rats from time to time, I guess (like the ear-waggling thing!):-) If the
boys' tails feel the same it's probably nothing to worry about, and I'm
glad she's okay - I think it's better to be the kind of person who notices
things like that than to be the kind of person whose rat has a serious
problem and they either don't care or don't interact with their rats enough
to notice anything!

yup, gotta agree with you there. Christmas is kissing my ear, so I
think she still loves me even though I got worried. ;)
