I was recently wondering how long this group has been around. I have seen
such a decline lately and also wonder if it would be against any rules to
post pictures. I know this is not a binary group and this has always been
taboo but I know it would pick things up and see no logical reason against
it. I am not familiar with how groups are established and I know that some
time ago the main objection to this would be the consideration that many
still used dial-up. I have no idea how many posters these days still have
dial-up but even if everyone had broadband would there still be some reason
to keep this group non binary.

I haven't been in this group very long, but I use a text-only
newsreader, and all I see of binaries is random characters.

I like non binary newsgroups. If this was binary then I'd probably not read
any more because losers would be posting objectionable pictures. If you
want to show pictures simply post a link to your upload.

The internet can be a nasty place. Let's try to preserve what decency it
has left.

That could be fixed by using a different newsreader. Do you want to view
binaries?

I visit and post to binary groups and I find them very acceptable. On rare
occasion one might find interruptions but as a whole I would not agree with
your characterization

alt.binary.pictures.animals is a great group and the population is witness
to that. Other posters on this group have happily posted their hammie shots
there and still do. There just don't seem to be as many posters here any
more and that is sad.

I have mixed feelings regarding the subject of turning this into a binary
group.
I`ve been viewing and posting pictures on the animal group John is reffering
to and as recently as last month there was
an outpouring of repulsive beastiality images I had to avoid.
I would sure hate to see that happen here. But I would love to be able to
post pics of my hamsters without sending people over to another group or
bothering with Webshots or something else.
Many children have visited this group like my niece, for instance.
I would freak if she saw some woman getting it on with a pitbull or God
forbid a horse!

That can happen to any group. Just because a group is text only does not
mean perverts can't post binaries. That is the risk anyone takes when they
subscribe to usenet groups. I would never give a child unsupervised access
to any usenet group. I have had posters follow me around from political
groups and end up harassing my wife because she had the same IP.

Yeah, the risk is always present.

generally the pervs go for busier groups. I have a feeling this one would
be relatively safe.

I think sometimes they have just lost their way. You may find more on an
'animals' group and less on a 'birds' group. More on a 'photos' and less on
animal specific like 'herps' or 'rodents'. In any event I find them pesky at
most if I kill file them from the start.
