general question.. anyone know what the best player is for .avi files?
I'd like to post some of the footage we've gotten of PW's cute lil waddle
but I'm not sure which player to embed.. (or entirely how to do it... we're
working with tripod.. so i'm looking for pages to "borrow" code from to show
me how...)

Just put them up as .avi files, windows media player(newer versions, 9 and
upwards I think) can play them, or a host of other free ones available on
the internet.(BS player, DIVX player etc)
The only other thing you can do is convert them to MPEG...it can be a
laborious task and the outcome is of a lesser quality IMV....from what I
know, you don't need to embed a player as such, just put it on and the user
will get a popup asking what he want's to do with the file, if he hasn't got
the correct player to handle it - if he has, it will play OK....you can't
please all the people all of the time, whichever format you choose to put
them up in, someone, somewhere will not be able to view them, AVI files are
very common these days and the codecs required by earlier versions of
WMPlayer are freely available from Microsoft's website.
