6 eggs laid 52 days ago
all fine until last week.
1 egg pipped occupant looks hale and healthy 14 hours ago
2 eggs looking slightly cumpled occupants presumed healthy and biding
their time
1 eggs looks fine, not really crumpled occupant presumed fine
2 eggs oversize one swollen to ~50%, one to ~80-90% over normal size
Q1. i believed from the literature that most eggs in a clutch pip at
about the same time, so i am waiting for the others to pip. after 9
hours i created a fold and 'nicked' the 80% oversize and one of the
crumpled hust enough to allow a drop or two of yolk to escape. in both
cases the yolk seemed aboslutely fine so i see no need to interfere
futher at this time - if there is a viable hatchling he can use the nick
as a start of an exit point.
Q2. how long should i wait for the other 5 eggs to pip before i
intervene? 52 days is a slightly short incubation period for a royal
55-60 on previous occasions and the eggs look absultely fine. however
1 has already pipped 14 hours ago.
any advice would be appreciated.
