Hello all.
I was at work this morning when my wife called to tell me there was a
snake in the basment.
It was approximately 3-4 feet long dark colored with white bands. I
live on an old farm and my wife is hysterical.
Does anyone have an idea on what it is?
Thank's
Karl

Hard to say without more info and/or a picture, but my guess would be
a kingsnake. See http://tinyurl.com/3btbjh for an example. There is
lots of variation of the thickness of the white bands. If so it's
harmless. In fact, there really aren't any venomous snakes in the US
that fit that description.

I concur. It sounds like a kingsnake.
