Chloe and I have found out that (not surprisingly) her mice like
sweetcorn. They gobble the stuff up as soon as it's put into the cage.
They're not very keen on apple or grape, though. Maybe those fruits are
too watery for them.
On the subject of dragging pieces of food around, when Smoky's family was
all together (four mice), Chloe would put an enormous leaf of lettuce in
the cage. As soon as she had closed the cage, Smoky would run over to the
leaf (which was so big it could easily have wrapped her up, with no fur
showing) and drag the whole thing through the small doorway into one of
the nestboxes in the cage. She worked so hard to manoeuvre it through the
doorway and when she finally got it in, she'd sit there and munch through
it. By the morning the leaf would be gone.
