Archived from groups: alt>cats (more info?)

I have nine fur babies. All are healthy and happy. But I have one,
Rusty, who sleeps non-stop. Well, he does spend a a few hours awake, and
seems okay when he is. But he can sleep for eight, ten hours at a time.
Sleeps right through meals. Is this normal for a cat? We took him in as
a stray and I'm not sure of his age, but he might be around five or six.
I want to be sure he's alright. He's my best pal and I don't want
anything happening to him. This sleeping is my only concern about him.
His appetite and everything else is fine. Thanks.

My friend has a cat like this. And if you touch her she complains. I call
her the Jewish Princess because she sounds just like Joan Rivers if you
disturb her. I would guess that if he has *always* slept like this, it's
normal for him. If you are really concerned or want peace of mind, have a
blood panel done to rule out any conditions.

Cats sleep up to about twenty hours a day. Bored and lazy cats sleep
more than cats with interesting and active lives. Most of mine are
inactive, but not always sleeping, for sixteen to twenty hours a day -
they are active for two or three hours in the morning and evening, and
occasionally at other times.
