Yes,
Change out the carpet and padding....you'll also need to have the
floor sealed before you lay the new padding (especially if it's from a
cat).
Several years ago, we went to the coast for vacation -- left our
siamese with a "dear old friend" whom was to stay at our home while we
were gone. He never touched the litter box in two weeks. We had to
go thru this process.......very expensive. BTW, our siamese baby
stayed, the friend went "bye bye".
