Arsonists strike at visitor centre
A CHARITY HQ has been burnt to the ground by arsonists.
The cabin, which was used as a visitor centre and storage room by
nature charity the Wildlife Trust, has been totally destroyed.
Mike Drew, nature reserve warden for the Wildlife Trust at Grafham
Water, said he was devastated when he saw the damage.
"It was quite heart-breaking going there. It is really sad.
"The fireman said the damage is 100 per cent. The only thing left was
the metal frame and the grids on the windows that were there to stop
vandalism.
"It was a key meeting place for volunteers, on the edge of the nature
reserve. It was where we met for cups of tea to keep warm when we are
working on the reserve."
The building was also used to store materials for use around the
nature reserve.
"There were 17 rolls of deer fencing in there. They cost £45 per roll.
There was also a fuel storage container worth £1,000.
"What has happened is going to knock my work plan out of the window
and all the bird boxes that volunteers have made have been lost."
A fire crew from Kimbolton and a crew from Huntingdon were called to
the building at Grafham Water at 1am yesterday.
