After 14 days of panacur and baytril plopp wasn't getting better. He had
a tracheal wash (surgery) after xrays so that whatever was causing fluid
build up in his lungs could be cultured. At that point he went off of
both the panacur and baytril. He was put on itraconazole (1ml a day) and
one baby asprin. Within a week, he had a noticable improvement and since
christmas he has been getting better and better. He is still on the
itraconazole, but the asprin has been cut. (The asprin was prescribed to
help with inflamation).
He now also seems to have recovered his balance completely. He can once
again jump up on the couch and the bed without any miss jumps. He can
also sit on his hind legs and peer around without falling over. His wry
neck is practically gone.
It is still not known what he caught (its not a bacterial infection), but
its assume that since itraconazole made a dramatic difference that it must
be a fungal infection.
Here he is after his surgery a week before christmas:

You can see his slight head tilt, it was never as bad as some of the
pictures I've seen, but you can definitely see it in that photo.
He is doing well now and its a huge relief. >> Stay informed about: plopp's wry neck update |

Congratulations! And well done to you and your vet for keeping the faith. I
will put itraconazole in my list of 'if ever...'
And will you please enter Plopp on www.disapprovingrabbits.com ? That
picture is priceless!

It's been a long road for you two; I hope the good news continues.

What sort of bothers me is the $$$, time and of course stress on him from
the surgery and we still don't have an answer what it was. Fungal is
most likely, but from where? He has one more blood test and if his white
cell count is normal, we should be done. I've not totalled the bills but
its about $1000 in less than 2 months. :(
Is that site the same people who put together the book? I think this one
is really the most fitting:
http://flickr.com/photos/migi328/2141841556/in/set-1325728/
His first or second oral shot of baytril and it missed.
Here is his tilt at the worst:
http://flickr.com/photos/migi328/2141050651/in/set-1325728/
Fortunately he looks nothing like this anymore.. he is much better and
actually has been doing his morning binkies and midnight indy 500 runs
for about the past 2 weeks. >> Stay informed about: plopp's wry neck update |

yes, they are the same people. That Baytril shot is so funny! I hope Plopp
got a well deserved treat after that!;)
And I hope you will have no more vet bills the next 10 years!
