can anyone suggest an aquatic plant that my goldfish wont decimate? i spent
3 months stocking the tank with oxygen weed from a local pet shop, they ate
about 10 bunches a month... now they have plastic plants but i`d like to
have some real ones.

Pothos and philodendron, and Ingrid uses Dracena... Not your typical
"underwater plants", but then the fish won't go on a feeding frenzy with them
either. ; )

I absolutely second the java moss suggestion. Its tough, takes a wide range
of water parameters, can tolerate a little salt (in case you ever need to
salt your tank) and my goldfish love it (but not in a meal sort of way, more
in a furniture sort of way). I imagine it would be a good thing to use for
a spawning mop, since it doesn't root, so once eggs were laid you could just
grab the whole bunch and move it to another tank.

Well a fully nice planted aquarium and goldfish make not a nice
combination, so better buy the most realistic plastic plants you can get
and spoil your fish with some nice salad every now and then...

Mabey a second tank with tetra's and many plants.......

:-)))))))))))

I have lots of weed in my tank - love it. cant stand tanks with no plants
or plastic plants. My goldies go through a lot of oxygen weed, but I buy a
bunch a month and it keeps me and them happy. I also have some type of
grass, and large leafed plant and a small-leafed glossy plant (you can tell
my LFS has no labelling on their plants cant you?) None of these get
hassled, and they have been in the tank a good three months. I feed my
goldies anything but flake - spirulina pellets, sera nip.....whatever else
takes my fancy. both the pellets and tablets are great because it takes the
goldies a long time to finish them, and gives them something to do.
Whether it is the variety of food I give them, or just the fact that I have
a LARGE amount of weed in the tank I am not sure, but they co-exist
happily, and I love looking at a planted aquarium. Seems unnatural to have
minimal or plastic plants.
Experiment with a few different types of weed, not just the oxygen and you
will find a mix that works I am sure.
Although I dont know what the prices are for you! (I get four reasonable
sized bunches for 12AUD, so it doesnt break the bank)
Cheers
Lil

I have a 50 gal L with 6 fancy GF - I keep the tank bare and bare bottom and
use the backing paper which has pictures of plants! - reason ? - there is
nothing there to accumulate detritus. GF are extremely messy - so watch out!
For interest in the tank - I use a lighthouse - air bubbler
