Hi!
My mice seem to be eating mostly the peanuts and sunflower seeds, I'm
not sure about Midnight but the other two, seem to be eating the corn but
their are always those big red and green bits left. I'm not sure what you
call them. Midnight may be eating some of the corn but the times when I
have seen her, she's been eating the fatty food like the peanuts and
sunflower seeds from the mix. I have not noticed yet, any of them getting
fat but I do want them all to get what they need in their diet. I was
thinking about slowly changing the three girls onto rat food.

Would that be a good choice?

If I do, can you buy sunflower seeds separately, I know sunflower seeds
are not put in rat food and Midnight loves them. If they are sold
separately, I can then buy sunflower seeds separately and the girls can
still eat a few in the week.

Thanks for any help

I'm not a fan of the mixed foods because the mice pick out all the "good"
fattening stuff and often leave the rest. I solve this problem by only
giving them a couple tablespoons of food and this forces them to eat ALL of
it (or else starve) instead of being picky.

A better solution is to feed a cube diet that is properly formulated for
rats and mice. I believe the cube diet is made by Hagen and they are just
small beige blocks. This prevents the mice from getting fat by eliminating
pickiness.

Vitakraft makes a good food mix made especially for mice. All the bits are made
mouse size, and there are no sunflower seeds or peanuts. As a bonus it is
doubtful that your mice will leave any of it since it's all things that mice
like. Keep sunflower seeds and peanuts as treats to be fed by hand, but don't
put them in their food dish. This inspires them to want to socialize with you
more so that they can get their favorite tidbits.
