Archived from groups: alt>pets>mice (more info?)

My usually energetic mouse ...Tibbles...was very quiet and would not
interact with the other mice today.

I don't know why.

Yesterday he took a pretty big fall ...about two feet...onto the carpet
and then was seemingly fine...but I wonder if he is just feeling bruises
or something.

He may also be missing his cagemate who just had babies and is in her own
maternity cage for awhile.

Whatever it is....it bothers me to see his normal personality change so
much.

Anyone have any advice? thoughts?

Bren

thanks for the info. He seems better today. No he is not in a cage with
other female mice as I don't want more babies just yet...but I let them
all play together for about an hour every evening outside their cages. I
watch them like a hawk (a non-mouseeating hawk!) to make sure that the
male does not mate with any of the females. When I had them all out
yesterday he just ran into his little playlog and would not come out. It
was odd. But today he seems just as frisky as ever. Go figure. I guess
mice have their moody days as well.

The new mum mouse is not coming out for her evening play for a few more
days yet..and even then will only have about five minutes as opposed to
an hour because I don't want her away from her babies that long. The
babies are now four days old and well hidden and cared for.

:)

If he's a he, he should not be interacting with the others anyway, unless
you want more babies.

not really, I've seen mice fall more than two feet before without any
injuries, although it's a slight possibility.

If he's alone in a cage of his own he will be a bit sulky, mice need company

Rearrange his entire cage, add new tubes and boxes for him to explore and he
will be distracted from his 'mood'....if you are going to keep a male for
breeding purposes, he should be left in with the mother at all times, unless
you believe the myths about fathers eating the offspring (untrue)...other
than that he should be kept with a few male cagemates until you are ready to
breed from him and then he can join the females for a few days, but then you
risk fighting when he goes back in with his male friends as they will smell
the females on him and nothing causes more fights amongst mice than a female
in heat.
