Also, names on a pedigree mean nothing if they are poor quality dogs...
or if you know nothing about those dogs.
I can tell you a great deal about many of the dogs in my guys'
pedigrees... but that's because I took the time and made the effort, and
because I personally knew a few of them.
A hint.... there is no such thing as a full breed or full blooded dog.
The term is purebred.
One thing that IS important is that you have as much knowledge as
possible about the breed. And the information on the pick-your-pet type
web sites is not necessarily correct. Use the research skills you got
shoved down your throat in high school.... <grin> and read what people
who have owned the breed, bred, trained and exhibited them in field
trials, obedience trials, agility trials (training and performance with
a dog gets you right to their inner selves!) Read at least one book
about the breed (from any publisher except TFH). Know and understand
what the job was that the breed was developed to do, and how that
effects it's personality, structure, temperament and training profile
today. (I am constantly amazed that Labrador Retriever puppy owners
don't link the word "retriever " in a breed's name to a puppy's tendency
to "hold hands" gently with it's mouth <chuckle>.)
Turn it into a project! Have fun! Good luck!
