Post subject: I have a pair of pigeon's nested with eggs on my balcony! What do I do?
Archived from groups: rec>pets>birds>pigeons (more info?)

Just curious. I found a pair of pigeons behind a cooler on my apartment
building's balcony. They've been there long enough to have 2 eggs sitting on
the carpet among scattered sticks. Maybe 1-2 weeks?

How long till they hatch? How long are there going to be baby birds out
there? Am I going to scare the parents off and abandon the babes if someone
is having a smoke or I need something from my storage out there? (every time
I go out they scare off leaving the eggs alone...)

Any advice/comments welcome.

thanks

You asked how long the eggs would take to hatch. The usual time is 18
days after the second egg is hatched. If they hatch, you'll have babies
in the nest for approximately 6 weeks. Thereafter the parents will lay
more eggs (they won't wait 6 weeks to lay more eggs by the way) and
you'll have more baby pigeons around.

I agree with Tony's advice. Get rid of the eggs and the nest as quickly
as you can and keep pestering the pigeons so they'll leave. Don't get
me wrong. I love pigeons--I've got a beautiful flock of domesticated birds.

If you really want pigeons, there are plenty of beautiful domesticated
pigeons around.

And don't think that removing the eggs and destroying the nest of these
wild pigeons is cruel. They'll simply find another spot to roost and
nest. Trust me, they won't miss a beat. I've been around pigeons long
enough to know.

Banded Pigeon on my balcony - Hi, I know nothing about pigeons, and am not sure what to do. This evening, before dusk, a pigeon showed up on the railing of our balcony at our apartment complex, and has been sitting very still, staring at our glass doors. It is full dark now, and....
