Besides the obvious problems with the water, do goldfish really get
love handles if fed too much? My two comets are so pathetic that each
time I walk by they both race to the same corner every time, open their
mouths wide, acting like they have not been fed in weeks....
What actors they are.

do fish get fat?

Fat and LARGE, lol.

The lil buggers have a memory span of about 30 seconds so they "forget"that
they eat. (Funny how they forget that, but they do seem to remember WHO
feeds them, haha.) Training your people not to feed them can be harder than
training the fish, yet you'll want to maintain a 2x a day feeding schedule
with them or youll overfeed them which can cause poopy fish, dirty water and
eventually dead fish (been there, done that).

Our 11" GF, "GoldZilla" is going on 5 years old now and one fat, happy
comet! I feed him religiously in the morning and at 9pm nightly. Once in a
blue moon, I throw him a few "treat" flakes when he's begging pathetically
or making alot of noise to get my attention.

Oh, BTW Ingrid, as you previously suggested, I replaced the gravel in his
tank with large round rocks. Guess what he tosses about the tank to let me
know its dinnertime? Haha, hope that makes you smile. Thanks for everything.
This newsgroup is great. Cheers!

I disagree with the 30 second memory thing. How would they know
to go to a certain side of the tank for food?
