So sad and annoyed! My oscar died for no reason! This is almost the
worst of my run of bad luck this week. It's not fair, I tried to do
everything right for this fish. Fish keeping is impossible! I can't
even keep an oscar alive!!

I'm sorry for your loss beano! Sometimes life is unfair. Don't give up on
fishkeeping though. Just vow to do it better next time.

Sorry for your loss.

How long did you have your oscar? How large was it?
What were your water parameters and tank size?

I'd had him for 6 months. He was 1.5in when I got him and he was about
4.5in when he died. He was in a 60L tank by himself. He had HEAPS of
room to swim, but I was just about to get him a bigger tank!!!

I changed about 20% of his water once per week - I had just changed it,
dechlorinating etc and then I left for holidays. He was sulking when I
left but I assumed it was because of the water change.

A few days before I went away for the weekend, I woke up and he had
scratches on him - I think he may have tried to swim through the hole
in the rock (he used to fit through it when he was smaller).

Not sure why he died so suddenly, I assume it was sudden anyway, even
though I don't know how long he'd been dead since I hadn't been there
for 2 days (he had an automatic feeder). He didn't have any spots on
him, although his eyes were all white and parts of him were white as
well (gills, base of the fins, parts of his body).

He was doing so well too, so annoyed that I lost him! We moved house
maybe one month ago, and he didn't even sulk! Once I put him in the
tank in the new house, he swam happily.

60Litre?
He needed much more space, especially a lenghty aquarium to swim in,
lenght is more important than height id say. I guess u had sand in it and
some other decorations, that takes away alot of those 60 L.

How short is a 60L aquarium, 50-55 cm? And the fish was 11cm long
not much space imho.

I´m sorry bout the loss but that aquarium would be suitable for a black
molly but not an oscar.
