Yes, I know that there are Cocker Spaniels shown as different varieties, but
the Norfolk and Norwich are shown as different breeds.

In the show ring, all the varieties are also shown as different breeds
also. Which makes group judging go on forever. I just wish they would
settle the Cocker Wars in BREED, before they go to GROUP. Same for
Dachshunds, and the many other varieties that look like a variation of the
same breed.. over and over and over.

They show the Beagle in different sizes, and now I thought I saw that they
classify the Boston Terrier in three different sizes also; not sure about
that one.

Hi Group

Thanks for your help to date!

You can be sure I've already trawled the web for suitable lists - plenty of
lists, none by general breed 'size'!

Incorporating the helpful comments received to date, laid out below is a
revised list.

Further comments welcomed! (Please!)

I'm trying to figure out your criteria.

For instance - this section

Flat Coated Retriever - by breed standards a lighter dog than a Golden,
but otherwise very similar in size

Smooth Coated Collie
Rough Coated Collie
Bearded Collie - a shorter dog than the ones above and lighter to boot,
I'm pretty sure.

Airedale Terrier
Pointer
Irish Setter - taller than the above dogs
Briard
Catahoula Leopard Dog
Afghan Hound - again - a height thing - taller than a Golden for sure
Golden Retriever
Ibizan Hound
Labrador Retriever
Portuguese Water Dog - these dogs are smaller than any of the retrievers
Doberman Pinscher
Greyhound
Weimaraner - Weims are pretty similar in size to some other Pointer
breeds.

What are you looking for? Height? Weight? Bulk? BMI? Lurchers
(further down the list) are MUTTS. How did you determine size? Some of
the breeds seem all over the map.

BTW - the Belgians are all the "same"

A Shetland Sheepdog is not bigger than a Siberian Husky.
Not that I have any clue what "bigger" means in this
context.

Come to think of it, a Shetland Sheepdog has a bigger mouth
than a Siberian Husky.

I don't care if the beagle decides to slpit varieties. I just wish varieties
would settle their breed differences in the breed classes themselves.. and
not wait until they get to group events. Within breed, the varieties should
decide which is the best variety of it's type and send ONE representative to
the group ring, not 4-5

Anybody who has researched the breed they own should not be surprised
to learn that generally, the APBT is considered a slightly shorter,
more muscular dog than the AMSTAFF. While some consider them one and
the same breed, some do not. I am not argueing that here as
apparently, the author of the thread considers them different by
listing them separately. Specifically, the UKC believes them to be the
same and the AKC believes them to be different and those are just the
major registries in this country. The AKC accepted size range for the
AMSTAFF is not as wide as the UKC accepted range for the APBT. The AKC
does not recognize the APBT at all and will not register a dog as an
AMSTAFF if it is registered with the UKC as an APBT. The UKC will
register an AKC registered AMSTAFF as an APBT.

Who are "they"? Anyway, what is one breed in one registry may be two
or three different breeds in another. And, since the original
question was sorting breeds by size, it's irrelevant that Norwiches
and Norfolks are different breeds, as they *are* the same size.

Who is who?
Kathleen said they were the same breed and I said they were not. Re-read my
post.
The Beagle is shown in the 13" size and 15" sizes.

Beardies are closer to Border Collies in size and build than they are
to Lassie Collies.

Considering that they registered as the same breed in some
registeries, that will be a surprise to many Pit and AmStaff owners.
But, yes, there is a huge range in size, from 25-30 lbs up to
gigantors of 100+ lbs.
