Well I attempted to let the birds out of the loft today for the first
time. I was paranoid I would lose some so I looked around and found
out that one can soap the wings a bit and it will prevent them flying
much. I waited till about 30 min from dark and then with them all on
the landing board outside of the trap but still caged in, I opened the
door and they all just trapped in except my one really brave one who is
the first to do anything. I guess I'll try again tomorrow, I'm
supposing they'll eventually start leaving the door area?? I've heard
that I should not run them out but be patient, but I expected at least
more than one to be adventurous. Should I make sure they can't trap in
until they've gone out the loft? Or just allow them to trap back in if
they are wanting to do that? Thanks a bunch.

Well like I said I didn't lose any and I am being patient, so I didn't
think I made any mistakes just being cautious. The reason for the wing
soaping was that I have some older ones who have not flown yet and I
was concerned they would fly and not get back in. My questions though
were whether I should block the trap for a bit so that they look around
instead of going in immediately for food, or maybe leave it open??
Thanks for the help.

Everyone makes the same mistake,,,YOu must be patient with them.. Open the door
and let them venture out on their own...I rarely lose one like this...It make
take some time for them all to venture out, but in time they will....Be
patient!!!!

Let them come and go as they want initially. Some will go in immediately, a few
will start staying out a little longer,, move your time up to allow a little
more daylight as they become accustomed to going in and out...Eventually, when
you open the trap they will all make a beeline for it, fly a bit and then come
back in, if they are hungry or thirsty...When they start routing, you have it
made..
