Archived from groups: alt>pets>mice (more info?)

I have three mouse houses now. One for the father (right), one for the baby
boys (middle) and one for the mother and baby girls (left). So many mice !
Gave two away. Still have 10 babies (now 5 weeks old) and the parents. Sure
are curious little critters. I bought the house in the middle from walmart
today and then seperated boys and girls (father is in the far right cage
alone). It was about $26 for the setup (10 gal aquarium, lid, wheel, food
dish and water bottle), then another $10 or so for the bedding material and
a new large bag of food.

I hope I did my sexing well enough! It seems easy enough at this age, as I
can see the males testicles clearly hanging down in the back. though there
was one mouse who has scruffier fur making it harder to see, and a little
buldge... but not 100% clear. 90% sure.. I'll have to check him later
tonight.

Way too small. In the wild mice have at least a 235M2 each!

I'm going to leave the rest of your post where it lies, but I will say
that I've never seen an ugly mouse. I've had albino "feeders," ordinary
agoutis, wild house mice, and so on, and I wouldn't describe any of them
as ugly. They were all cute in their own ways, and more importantly,
they all had their own personalities that they revealed to me over time.

I find it difficult to understand how someone who professes to care
about mice could regard one as ugly simply due to a lack of ideal
markings.

Which shows that you have never had over a hundered at once while breeding
for colors. Brown (agouti) mice do not sell well while in a tank with a
brindle marked satin. It doesn't mean that the agouti is "ugly" by itself,
it just means that it is ugly by comparison in the eyes of the common person
who wants a pet mouse. Which is what I have to worry about, as the store
doesn't buy mice that don't sell as fancy mice. And I get a buck less for
feeders. If she doesn't sell them in a certain time length, the manager has
to downgrade them to feeders, which makes her unhappy, since she doesn't
make a profit on them. This means that she isn't as happy with me.
Hence, color grading.
I'm not being mean Heather, just practical.
