I think they know when I'm coming!

Visting a local pet shop and admiring the rats and mice, I notice one
ickle, tiny, grey bit of a mouse, off to the side of the cage. Upon closer
inspection a shop worker and I decide this little bit of fluff is missing
both eyes. Poor little thing!

Badgering the shop owner, he finally tells me to just take the mouse.
Carrying the wee beastie in my hand we go to the car and so the hubby.
Shaking his head we leave for home.

Setting up a 10 gallon aquarium as a home for the newcomer, we leave the
mouse in peace to become familiar with his new surroundings. It slowly
makes it's way around the sides of the cage, finds the water bottle, food
bowl, and hidey box. Then he settles down and has a bath. Happy that this
blind mouse is settling in, I leave to do some chores.

Coming back after a couple of hours, I'm in for the surprise of the week.
There, sitting in the middle of the food bowl, munching away happily, is an
ickle, tiny, grey bit of a mouse... with both eyes wide open! What
the...!!! His eyes have been open ever since... well, except to sleep.

I've also rescued 3 visually handicapped rats. 2 one-eyed rats and 1 rat
with no eyes. Do I have SUCKER stamped on my forehead?

Julia
Drusilla (deer mouse) and Zane (the bind mouse, HA!)

You don't have Sucker stamped on your forehead...you have "sweet person"
stamped there.

Don't feel dumb about good intentions.

Julia, GREAT story. Could it be that the mouse was so young his eyes
weren't open yet? I know it's hard to tell, because since I've gotten my
rats, my mice look extra small to me all the time. Well, congratulations on
your new, un-handicapped addition, and to be sure he's better off in your
house than in that pet store!!

I've never seen any animals eyes come completely open in a matter of hours.
I was thinking perhaps it was the change from pine shavings to hay..
something of an allergy thing. <shrugs> Just glad he's NOT blind!

Julia :)
