Um Hi
Im new to this group mainly because I'm a new owner. Yesterday I bought a
baby corn snake (my first snake ever) and today, as I was showing it off to
people, I noticed a little black spot crawling up its body. As I tried to
get a closer look at it, it fell off the snake's body. Was it a tick or a
mite? It didn't hop or anything, just slid right off. I'm worried for two
reasons. The first is, of course, for the snake's health and the second is,
of course, for my own. What was that thing? Will it infest my room (I think
thats where it fell)? Whats the best way to get rid of it? And How do I get
my hands on that best way?
Thanks a lot!

Almost all baby corn snakes are captive bred, so ticks and mites should not
be an issue (unless the breeder or pet store had terrible setups for the
snakes).

Where did you buy the baby corn snake? I would look over the entire snake
very closely (use a magnifying glass, if possible) and see if you can spot
any other "little black spots". If you really do have a problem with mites
there will most likely be many mites on the snake.

Give us more information if you see other black spots on your snake. If you
only saw one and it slid off as you describe, there may be nothing to worry
about.

Also, check out The Corn Snake Manual by Kathy Love. This book will answer
all of your questions about the proper care of your new snake.
