I have 3 goldfish and 3 white cloud mountain minnows, and they get along
just fine. The monnows mostly stuck together in a bunch and keep out of
the goldfishes way, but sometimes they get brave and swim around the
goldfish who dont seem that bothered.
One of my Goldfish certainly has a big enough mouth to fit a minnow in and
I have seen him chasing one of the minnows around, but the minnows are too
fast for him to catch up and he soon gets bored.
I have also seen one of my other goldfish following a minnow around, but
both of them were just swiming slowly around quite leasurely, which is why
I say follow rather than "chase".
The store where I bought my 2nd goldfish had (and still have) a large tank
with a lot of goldfish and a lot of minnows in it, they all seemed quite
happy together, when I introduced the 2nd goldfish and the minnows to the
tank the 1st goldfish sent a while whizzing around after the minnows but
once the novelty wore off hes never bothered them again, and it's the 3rd
goldfish who still occasionaly chases after the minnows.
The intersting thing I have noticed is that when its food time the goldfish
will fight with each other over the food, chasing each other around the
tank and nudging each other, and it can get quite frenzied, but they
allways ignore the minnows who dart around the goldfish picking up bits of
food.
I was told by the guy in the store that minnows like to be with other
minnows, and that 3 was the least number we should have, but hes recomend 6
or more.
