We have a 6 yr old milksnake that is now just over 3 ft long. He as always
readily accepted frozen mice once a week but now refuses to eat. This has
been going on about 2 mo., He is still very healthy looking , not pinched at
all and shedding like he should. We have owned him since he was a
hatchling... any insights would be appreciated.

My brother has a Kenyan Sand boa that stopped eating. I suggested he clean
the tank and change the sand since he had never done that. As soon as he
did, the snake started eating again. If the tank is dirty or if you have not
recently changed the bedding, you might want to try that.

I had the same problem with a Eastern Milksnake, he stopped eating for three
months, but he did not lose any body mass. I tried various other food (he
was eating dead mouse "fuzzys" and "pinkys".
Finally I tried the last thing I could think of, and that was to put in a
few small pinkys and 2 fuzzys and then covered his cage so he could not see
out. And left him alone for a day and he started eating again. My only
guess on why he stopped eating is that milksnakes are known nest raiders and
are used to eating small pinkys and because they are much easier to eat then
eating larger mice.
Try it out, no guarantees, all snakes are different, but it wouldn't hurt to
give it a try.

My corn snake is like that--he's going on weeks and not eating.
Asked the local reptile store owner and he said keep trying to feed
him--when he gets hungry he will eat. Survival is a greater instinct
to an animal than dying.
