>what is the best diet for mice?

there is much talk about the proper mouse diet. I don't believe the mice
themselves care. they'll eat anything. mine ate bread, oatmeal, seeds,
cheese, peanut butter, leftover pizza, noodles, vegetable cooking oil, pumpkin
pie, pie crust, spaghetti, dry cat food, dry dog food, and just about any other
kind of carbohydrate or vegetable oil, and they loved it all. a few would
nibble on carrots, one or two would eat lettuce (but they would devour it as if
starved). just give them however much they eat in a day, minimize the fats,
make sure they have clean water every day, and give them an exercise wheel to
run on, and they should be fine.

pregnant females should be given some hard-boiled egg and dry cat food every
day. making babies is hard work for such little animals and sometimes the
mothers will become so protein-starved that they will eat their babies, one per
day.

I used to take our mouse red on cheese trips. he would run into my hand, I'd
carry him to the kitchen and cut a small piece of cheese while he watched, and
he would eat it while I carried him back to his cage.
