first, calm down.. if you only got the mice a week ago or so, then she was
pregnant when you got her. first, go to the library and get some books on
mice, second, make sure the mouse cage is in a warm and relatively quiet
area. the babies will be fed by mom for a few weeks, then they will be
weaned and yes, they'll eat regular mouse food at that time. until then,
you need to feed mom a little extra food, high in fat and protein. spread
some peanutbutter thinly on a cracker, try some boiled egg, dog or cat food
work good as well.
don't disturb the nest too much for the first week. if you need to take a
quick peek at the babies (to count em, make sure they're all still alive,
etc..) use the eraser end of a pencil to move the nest material around and
put it back.

as for what to do with the babies when they're older (leve em with mom til
at least 4 weeks, girls can stay w/ her forever, but boys need to be removed
by week 5 or you risk more babies..) start asking around to your friends
now.. find out if any of them want mice (with their parent's approval, of
course...) if the pet store you got them from is a no-feeders store (there
are a few out there, generally the small local ones..) you can ask if they'd
be willing to take the babies (giving/selling them to pet stores is not a
popular option, but sometimes you have little choice..) also make up flyers
that you can post around town to advertise that you have PET mice
available.. always make sure they know that these are pets, not feeder mice.

good luck

yes, remove any ded babies.. it's probablly best to use tweezers or tongs to
take them out, so you don't leave human scent in the nest and upset mom.
sorry they didn't all make it, but make sure mom gets lots of extra fat and
protien and hopefully the rest will make it.

sometimes it happens, especially if this was her first litter, or there may
have been birth defects. there are a lot of reasons a litter might not
survive. mom could have killed them if she didn't have enough milk to feed
them, there was something wrong with them, or she simply didn't really know
what to do with them. the other mouse that was in there could have killed
them, though that is generally unlikely. or they simply could have died for
any number of reasons.
sorry they didn't make it, just take care of the mice you have left.

there are several possible reasons. some mothers are simply not good mothers.
the mother may be too young and the babies are not healthy. the mother may not
be getting enough food and be unable to nurse them. they may be too cold. you
might consider any of these reasons.

females take care of each other's babies. in the wild this is useful because
mouse mothers are always getting knocked off, but it also means that careless
females breed just as successfully as careful ones.
