I didn't "make" toys for my red lored. In addition to "Baby" we also
had 10 aquariums and with that came fish food in bright yellow, light
brown and green plastic containers. Her cage was a large one and had
ports on each side for heavy food and water dishes. When you took a
dish out to clean or refill it left a hole, of course. One day I put
one of the bright yellow TetraMin containers in the cage with her and
she immediately went to the floor to get it and sling it about. She
would play with it and ignore every other toy she had access to. One
day she grabbed it, climbed up the cage side and pushed it thru the
port when it was open for cleaning and it hit the floor with a lot of
noise. She stuck her head out the port and looked at it and said
"Turkey" (my name!). I got the container and put it back inside the
cage, thru one of the other ports and Baby immediately climbed down,
got it and carried it back and tossed it again and hollered "Turkey".
We played toss and fetch for long stretches of time over a couple of
years. She favored the bright yellow over the other colors. When I
put a green one in she took it to a corner just to get it out of the
way and wouldn't touch the light brown one .. just ignored it.
A spool that thread comes on is another one that she liked. Use your
imagination.
