what is your advise on what is best to use in a litter tray,
cat litter or hay or shredded paper ?

Wood Stove Pellets, Horse Bedding, or the very popular Woody Pet.
These are all about $5 for 35 lb.

Well ya don't want to use "clumping" cat litter, I find the best is pine
peleted products like "woody pet" "feline pine" (my fav) or the stove
pellets, then top it all off with hay. Janice
