I've been told that the amount of light an animal's eyes get during
the "day" will affect how it grows, when it think's it's summer, time
to mate, etc.

We keep our bunnies mostly in one room. Does anyone know if we should
turn the lights on/off at times that simulate outside day/night time?

I hope that turned out to be a sensible question.

Thanks

Joe

It would make sense for them to know if it is day or night. I would think that if their room is
very dark, it would be a good idea to turn on the lights and maybe even use "grow lights" (such as
ones you use for plants)

Right now my Bunnies are confined to one area of the house (cause we're working on their new room)
and there isn't a lot of light there, so, I always leave the lights on during the day. Once we have
their new room finished, they will have wonderful "all day" light with many windows where they can
look outside, watch the squirrels, bask in the sunshine and a screened in porch where they can
actually go outside when it is cool enough. Plus they will have "visit time" every day in the rest
of the house. Funny how we tend to spoil our Bunnies isn't it?

Personally, I sometimes think they're the dominant life form in this
house.

I'd love to be able to build a new room for them like that,
unfortunatly there isn't enough time, money, wifely patience, et al.

Someone at work today said they need to place their bunny somewhere
else, but when I brought it up, my wife just smiled, shook her head,
and said "no, dear" as she walked out of the room.

<sigh>

Joe, what we're doing is just extending the den onto the front porch. The "room" is only about 5' x
14' and it hasn't cost us a lot since the floor and roof were already there and we're doing ALL the
work ourselves. Wiring the room was a real challenge for me but, in spite of a few choice words, I
got it done and my son hooked it up to the breaker for me. I've finished the wainscoting and am
mudding the sheetrock now. I still have to put up window trim and wallpaper (on just the upper half
of the room) paint the woodwork and it will be finished ... I'm ready to have it done yesterday <g>
The biggest expense were the four windows and one door (to the rest of the porch).

The Bunnies have tried out being in there and seemed ecstatically happy. They have their own air
conditioning duct and the floor is unglazed tile so it will be cool but not slippery. We got the
tile on sale for 50 cents a square. I will get them some seagrass mats to scatter around the floor
and they will still have their 4 story condo along the side of the room (they really love their
condo). Their lights are even on dimmer switches. I think we're spoiling them, but Hubby is as bad
as I am about that. I have to watch him cause he likes to slip them an extra treat ... I've actually
caught him telling BB and Cissy to "not tell Mom" ... Geesh

I've forgotten how many Bunnies you have? We just have the two and I'm really glad we got Cissy for
BB since they're as close as two peas in a pod now, but I don't know that I'd want more than two
either. At least not right now.

Only SOMETIMES? Around here, my RABBITS know that they are the dominant life
form.

As for light, your new room will be perfect. However, although mine are in a
room with a skylight and down-to-the-floor windows, they don't get confused
between sunlight and the lights at night - but are confused those few times I
am up late (or ALL night) working on something and have the lights on past 1am.
