My Dad died Monday night and my Stepmother took the obituary I wrote to the
Nat'l Cremation Society and they handle the Death Notices in the local paper
(St. Pete Times). I wrote the "traditional", requesting that donations be
sent to our local SPCA or peoples' favorite animal shelters. They wouldn't
take that part of the notice saying that they couldn't do that any longer.
Anyone heard of that?! I think it is awful. People want to recognize
loss--especially friends of the remaining family. I wrote to the SPCA too
asking them about it. Guess I will call the Cremation Society but just so
much energy right now. Thanks for any info. Penny >> Stay informed about: "in lieu of flowers" |

I'm sorry to hear about your dad..... but was glad to read that you were
with him and had a good "good-bye". I've not heard about your situation,
but we have a paper here that charges $50 if the obit. is "too long".... not
sure exactly what "too long" is, though, and who exactly decides how many
words constitute "too long".

Penny,
Sorry to hear about your dad:(.
I can't believe a paper would refuse to print that you and your family
wished the donations to be sent to the SPCA/peoples fav. animal shelter.
Good night, what bloody business is it of theirs! If they want the business
and as long as you aren't printing anything illegal, or really weird
request...well...I would not be buying that paper any more!
Hope the sun shines brighter for you in coming days.

Thank you, Liz. It was so hard but I was with him the last 40 hours! The
Hospice nurse said my Dad probably wouldn't live through the night Sunday so
I didn't leave! It was a "good" good bye, but I don't think we are ever
"ready" to lose someone we love so much. Penny >> Stay informed about: "in lieu of flowers" |

Ah Penny, I'm so sorry. My prayers are with you that the Lord may comfort
you and your family at this sad time.

I am soory for your loss. The loss of a loved one is difficult. I
know the situation.
I have contacted the St. pete Times asking for clarification of their
refusal. For my part, I have never heard of such nonsense. I will
pass on the info to the NG when I get a reply.

Sorry to hear about your loss, be strong, but don't hide your feelings, let
them out. Nothing wrong with a cry.
I'm afraid to say, from my experiences dealing with bereavement, there is a
lot more red-tape to come, I found it really frustrating and upsetting.
Our very best wishes. >> Stay informed about: "in lieu of flowers" |

Thank you all for your wishes and thoughts. I am glad I was able to be with
him...he would have done the same for me. And people do want to send their
thoughts and sometimes memorials--I know that my friends have asked--and
this is just a crazy rule. I would hope that people remember me to the
animals! Thanks again to all of you. Penny (with Maggie and Buddy) >> Stay informed about: "in lieu of flowers" |
