Hi, my dog seem to have a ear infection in her left ear.
Does anyone know of a treatment before going to the vet?
I noticed it when she had been tilting her head towards the left for the
past few days and when examined closely found that the inside of her ear is
slightly red with some sort of puss. The infection is not very deep.
Would using eyedrops help?
Thanx for any advice in advance!!

No, eye drops moisurize, they don't treat the infection. Your vet needs to
look into the ear and get a sample of the discharge to determine what the
cause of the infection is before treating with the appropriate medication.
It could be infection, fungus, a combination or another anatomical
presentation causing the discharge to be a secondary symptom. The infection
is probably very deep as the ear of a dog is very different from a human's.
please make an appointment with the vet soon. You wouldn't appreciate being
in discomfort like that either. ;-)

Left untreated the dog could suffer permenant ear and hearing
damage. You should immediately get the dog into the vet and bypass
any home remedies at this point.

One of my dogs has floppy ears, and sometimes gets a ear infection.
Cought early twice, I've been able to cure it with a perscription
ear drop antibiotic from the vet. Had to use the same stuff when one of
her anal glands became impacted and infected.

I've started cleaning the dogs ears at least every two weeks. This
has helped prevent it from happening again so far.

Yes, please take your dog to a veterinarian. To properly treat
a problem you need to know its cause.

My foster dog, Pete, (big GSD) had a pretty skanky ear infection when we
took him into rescue.

A trip to the vet and they cultured his ear, sold me a tube of medicine, and
told me how to properly clean out this ears every other day, and Voila -
less than a week later the infection is gone and Petey is no longer shaking
his head! He even started coming to me to cooperate when the medicine
needed to be applied.

Please take your pooch to the vet before the ear becomes even worse. The
worse the infection becomes, the more difficult it is to treat.

Yours in GSDs and rescue,

Lea
