I just recently discovered that my two boys are related (Erwin's Great
Great Great Great Great Grandfather was also Dempsey's Great Great Great
Grandfater) Thought it might be fun to see if we can find any
relationship between the labs on this group.

Erwin's Family Tree is below. (Parents Storm and Emilee)

Poolstead Pullover
St. John's Conquistador
Huvens Silvergrill Peggy
Norwoodacres Tropical Storm
Chucklebrooks Danmark
BonaVentures Kentucky Belle
Luggers Bonaventure Belle

Euclids Beaumark
Willowrose Gimme a Break
Willowroses Edge of a Dream
Enjoielabs Emilee of New Moon
Brooktrees Prairie Ranger
Enjoielabs Designing Woman
Lindenhalls Spady Express

The relationship between Erwin and Dempsey is through Poolstead
Pullover. His Great Great Great grandfather was Sandylands Mark (which
make Sandylands Mark Erwin G.G.G.G.G grandfather), Dempsey's Great Great
Great granfather was also Sandylands Mark.

So, do yours fit in anywhere here? I found a lot of this with the
information the breeder gave me. I managed to follow the rest up with
Google searches, and labradordb.com

Here is a picture of their most recent common ancestor (that I can find)

Nothing in the list I cut hits home, but we do have some Sandylands in our
line -
Sandylands Gad-About is Atty's Grandfather,
and Sandylands My Guy and Sandylands Bliss are her paternal great
grandparents...... assuming I counted right!
But I didn't see Sandylands Mark in her line anywhere.

Hey! Atty and Erwin are related.

OK lets see if we can get this straight then. Looks like Ballyduff
Marketeer is the closest link (at least as far as I can see)

Sandylands Gad About's Great Great Great Grandfather is Ballyduff
Marketeer, which makes him Atty's G.G.G.G.G. Grandfather.
Erwin's Grandfather was Poolstead Pullover, who's G.G.G. Grandfather was
also Ballyduff Marketeer, which makes him Erwin's G.G.G.G.G. Grandfather
as well. So Erwin and Atty have the same G.G.G.G.G. grandfather.

Also Ballyduff Marketeer was the son of Sandylands Mark, which means
that Attys G.G.G.G.G.G. Grandfather was Erwin's G.G.G.G.G. Grandfather,
and Dempsey's G.G.G. Grandfather.

Way too confusing for me, especially this early in the morning!
So, how's Erwin's health? Did Atty get her horrible allergies and thyroid
problems from her maternal or paternal sides? Who do I blame - mom or dad?
LOL

Ha :). I'm thinking the relationship is a bit too distant to infer any
meaningful genetic relationships (as a rough estimate, I'd guess they
share <5% of DNA from the same sources).

Erwin's got a little bit of a tendency towards a thinning coat and
allergies in his lines. He gets some very mild skin issues (bouts of
dandruff that are more of an beauty issue than anything else, as black
with white flakes is quite noticeable), but those are under control with
a good diet. His brother had some more pronounced skin issues, where
when he blew his coat, he'd end up with bald patches for a while (also
under control with diet).

Another one of his brothers had a fatal reaction to Rimadyl.

Erwin's biggest issue right now is Psychogenic Polydypsia (I love that
term...). Basically he has a drinking problem. He loves his water, he
will drink any water I put down for him, but all tests come back normal,
and he doesn't actually need to drink that much water (he's fine if I
restrict his water intake).

I call it the water tanker syndrom. I have a beagle/retrieve mix who will
tank up if I don't distract him. I've seen him drink so much he gets sick.

I think Buddy problem is that he was starved when I got him and he would eat
and drink till he burst if I left him. I don't left food down but the water
I do so we had a problem with that. He's gotten better in the year that
we've had him but I still have to watch his water intake at times.

There's some Sandylands Mark in four of our Labs (4 generations) and
also one we lost a few years ago. He would have been a 4th generation
from Sandylands Mark.

Also see you have some Chucklebrooks Danmark in there! Dan was a great
Lab! Most of ours have a lot of Chucklebrook in them, not from Dan
though.

Its amazing what a small world it is sometimes. Got any pictures of Dan
kicking around? Its always fun to look at 'family' photos.
